Out There Adventure: The Photographs of Karl Kernberger Late-Night Friday Talk

The History Museum is hosting a “Late-Night Friday” program, "Out There Adventure: The Photographs of Karl Kernberger" On Fri., May 16, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the Meem Room of the museum. Late-Night Fridays at the museum offers visitors a chance to enjoy after-hours activities and programming from 5 – 7 p.m. Admission is free to New Mexico residents.

Project archivist Hall Frost will give an overview of the Karl Kernberger Photography Collection digitization project in a presentation on the collection and its highlights, the archival work involved in making it accessible, and the digital resources the museum has made available to the public.

After working as a photographer for the Museum of New Mexico in the 1960s, Karl Kernberger took on independent projects throughout New Mexico and the southwest that reflected his interests in regional culture, Native American issues, social movements, and his acute and growing interest in outdoor recreation and environmental conservation.

Thanks to a recent grant project funded by the New Mexico Historical Records Advisory Board, the museum’s Palace of the Governors Photo Archives now offers the Karl Kernberger negatives and contact sheets digitally for researchers to use.

New Mexico residents, 5–7 p.m. every Friday are FREE during seasonal extended hours (May through October)
