Cultural Memory and Amateur Film: The Visual Legacy of the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial

Please join Alison Griffiths, for an ON-LINE talk as part of our Friends of History Lecture series. This lecture explores the vibrant history of the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial (ITIC) from its inauguration in 1922 to the early 1940s. Drawing upon a treasure trove of materials on the ITIC from several regional archives, including the Palace of the Governors, Professor Alison Griffiths examines how photographs, films, posters, and other ephemera transport us into the rich history of Ceremonial that celebrated its centennial in 2022. Miguel Trujillo Day

To help commemorate “Miguel Trujillo Day” the New Mexico History Museum is offering free admission on Thursday, August 3rd. As part of the celebration, the museum is opening a special interactive exhibit, “Miguel Trujillo and the Pursuit of Native Voting Rights." The exhibit highlights Miguel Trujillo’s advocacy for Native voting rights and the impact his ongoing legacy has on Native voters today. Opening Reception: Miguel Trujillo and the Pursuit of Native Voting Rights

In celebration of a special exhibition entitled, “Miguel Trujillo and the Pursuit of Native Voting Rights” please join the New Mexico History Museum for an opening reception on August 4th, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s lobby.  The exhibition honors the 75th anniversary of the landmark court case, Trujillo v Garley, which granted Native New Mexicans the right to vote in US elections.
