New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs

The New Mexico History Museum is part of the largest state-sponsored museum system in the United States. This system is managed by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs. Created in 1978, DCA represents New Mexico’s dedication to preserving and celebrating the cultural integrity and diversity of our state. DCA is led by a cabinet secretary appointed by the governor.

Museum of New Mexico Board of Regents

Specific governance for the New Mexico History Museum is provided by the Museum of New Mexico Board of Regents. Composed of citizens from around New Mexico, the board establishes policy, determines the mission and development of the museum, and exercises trusteeship over the museum’s collections.
